Will Supe. Galvin Newsom
help, hinder, or hide
the growing homeless
gordian knot?
Can it be untied or must
it be broken to begin again?
by Joe B. Pol’s politics, issues, and noise about it is lost on me, all I vote for is lesser evils or a seemingly better person at the time and forget it. ‘Da Mayor of San Francisco is about to leave us high and dry [after making untold millions or more in real estate, stock’s and probably future S.F. Boasting and/or endorsements of all kinds.]Good for him but he leaves gaping holes in the economic structure of his adopted city; maybe I’m wrong and he’s done more to help working poor individuals, families, and the homeless than any other mayor. Like I said I could be wrong about Mayor W. Brown’s administration. New blood is need to replace the outgoing Administration. I know there are lots of players in this hard game of fame, high stakes, winner take all, of power politics. Aside from a attorney getting death treats in the mail for whatever work, she’s doing to piss off other powerful persons, and Supervisor Gavin Newsom seeking one the highest, hardest, plus perkiest "jobs" the city has to offer, these two may one day be a future power couple to reckon with. Death threats aside it will be interesting to watch after marriage, cake cutting, party, and honeymoon. I won’t be watching the scene not having the time or inclination to wonder how these two people will fair but as for others interested in the society page it will probably be quite a show. Its funny how stuff unfolds-recently there was an e-mail I happen to see about Tommy Hilfiger on the "Oprah" show what happened. I sent my brother who's studying studying in ‘Chi or Windy-C an e-mail though he could be too busy concentrating on his studies to blast friends or relatives in the great apple so its up to you readers. TF [What I hear from people watching that show is: she asked him if the statements about race he was accused of saying were true. ] Italics mine. ’All Righty Now. I myself, like the look of T.H. clothes, in fact they are made so well they’d look good on anyone with the bucks to buy, and that’s the problem when people whether they be Black, Asian, Hispanic, or of Jewish persuasion are told "This Is Not For You Folks but only for some rarified Aryan’s body. This Tommy guy has blown it BIG TIME. Didn’t anyone ever tell him to keep his views to himself and let his fashion speak for him? To all American’s of every hue, religion, culture, mixed race or those proud of their purity but self confident enough not believing superiority hype knowing science has disproved scientific racism. Imagine any child wearing those clothes and now told this is for upper class whites only. "If only he had known who were buying his clothes! From where ever he comes from I am sure he has shamed more of countrymen/women than made proud. At least when American of African decent had the F U B. U. But in our multi, Technicolor world this cannot stand. In our still yet to be united, though striving to be United States, economics is a driving force but there is a line a limit Mr. Tommy Hilfiger has crossed he’ll find out his fashion fauxpas will cost him bundles of bucks since he’s not the only game in town. I think it is my duty as a regular Joe Public to sent out an alarm. HIS FASHION SENSE IS HIGHLY PRIZED BUT HIS PRICE IN PRIDE FOR WEARING HIS GARMENTS AND NAME IS TOO HIGH! Folks, please let the word on this go out my snail & E-mail, Fax and phone, in ads in newsprint, television or on-line, and radio, also by ham radio inform friends, lovers, relatives across the land and globe about this guy Mr. Tommy Hilfiger and his creeky, creepy, crappy clothes line. I refuse to call it preppy because I will not insult some great looking American Prep School Fashions. I’ve done my part, dear readers its your turn now. I’d like to compare C O H’s plan with Mr. Newsom’s and see where they merge and differ. The arresting panhandlers for being on median strips, (islands between streets and sidewalks where cars pause when overhead street lights turn red for them to stop) parking lots, transit stations or anywhere they are seen. Being next former Supervisor, the Honorable, Rev. Amos Brown may have indeed have had some affect on Mr. Newsom is possible whether it’s a possitive or negative is still in question. I don’t know, not being able compare C O H or Newsom plans side by side but it seems to me that one reason so much money is spent on homelessness is because… There isn’t enough low income housing, medium to higher tech training, 2-4 year or money for Junior College and higher educational goals of working poor and homeless who could improve their lives instead of the a-job-any-job-syndrome of to many so called job ready organizations. Tourists may spend a few million in the city but when they stop coming because of whether, safety or danger rumors or bomb threats they suffer but working people buy mostly where they live, invest in schools, homes, banks, or small businesses some of which become larger. Ghost Towns happen when the poorest resident must relocate or starve, if a family moves that’s one future gone leaving gaps in the landscape. While wealthy or at least comfortably well off take vacations, seek other places to live while watching their investments grow have no real stake unless their base of economic strength lay here and not scattered through out the world. I don’t know about you folks but could it be that Mr. Newsom’s Mayoral bid might be another "New Bleak Hope?" Again I could be wrong but placing people in jail with fines so high that jail is where they’ll end up. Looks like another hide ‘em away, lock ‘em up, see no problem – there is no problem. Filling up jails is temporary and only makes homelessness worse unless those in jail are taught higher technical, economic skills, learning, and job training "Jail Could Be A Step Up." [Sorry Mr. Jessie Jackson for using the phrase too bad it still rings so true.] But why not prevent all this with better job/career and learning skills before sending folks to jail. Anyone with COH’s or Newsom's 23 points plan send them to me, I’d like see what’s what. Bye. I know I've errors in the column but between Hilfiger and Newsom I don't know if we've accidently slid back in time or stumbling into a new if not dark but certainly Gray Ages PS Sorry for the long column, I hope the info helps. |
